Yu-Ping Zhao, Fang Niu and Wen-Hua Fang Kunming General Hospital of Chengdu Military Command, Kunming, 650032 China The authors outlined the peri-operative nursing care of 93 spinal injury cases on Schwann cell transplantation: cares should be given to understand the patients’ psychological state and release their stress prior to the operation; necessary examinations should be finished preoperatively; the patients’ postoperative vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, and respiration, and blood oxygen concentration should be monitored intensively; patients should be guided and helped to take comfortable position for rest and to avoid bed sores; nurses should observe the color, quality and quantity of the draining fluid and secure the draining tubes. Patients are also encouraged to take rehabilitation exercises under the guidance of the medical staff as early as possible in order to restore the function of their lower limbs. No nursing complications took place in the 93 patients who had received Schwann cell transplantation peri-operatively.
