“"The level of ophthalmology in China is surprisingly high. In fact, the level of medicine as a whole in China is high."” -Dr. David Klein - US Opthalmologist
REASON FOR COMING FOR TREATMENT: Jackie had MS with symptoms from 1982. She was wheelchair bound and experienced a lot of pain.
TREATMENT: Umbilical Cord Stem Cell and Nerve Growth Factor Injections with Rehabilitation Therapy.
START OF TREATMENT: June 22, 2006
BEFORE THE TREATMENT: Jackie had very little feeling in her legs and feet. She had a feeling of pain that intensified as the day went on with an often unbearable pain in her feet. She could not move her legs or ankles. Her feet were always cold getting worse by the end of the day which caused pain. She did not feel grounded when she stood. Her left eye had a light veil over it. Both eyes were sensitive to bright light. Her right hand was generally numb. She sometimes felt tightening bands around her torso. Her balance was not good and her muscles were weak. She often would wake at 2 or 3 a.m. and was unable to go back to sleep.
Her bladder control is better even though she felt it was good before. Her legs are much more flexible and her ankles can now move. While she lays in bed, she can move her legs a little, which had not happened for three years. She has generally more feeling in her legs and feet. Her feet are now generally warm and when they are cold, she only experiences comfort, not pain. Her hand occasionally is not numb and had an instance for the first time where she could feel cold. She no longer has the feeling of tight bands around her waist. Sometimes her balance seems better. She no longer needs sleeping pills to fall asleep and generally can sleep through the night. Most of all she does not have any feeling of pain which is what she really was hoping for as a result from the treatment.

China Stem Cell News Note: Jackie had part of her treatment in Nanshan hospital in Shenzhen and the rest of it at Beike's stem cell treatment center in Qingdao. While most of the 2008 Olympic events will be held in Beijing, Qingdao is the site for the Olympic Sailing Competition. Jackie has a worldwide non-profit community sailing program called Sailability which makes it easy for all types of people - including disabled, old, young, rich and poor - to be able to sail quickly and easily. Jackie decided she wanted to go to Qingdao to start working to get her program set up there ahead of the Olympics. Her program was welcomed by top government officials and she made two television appearances.
