NAME: Valerie Crowter COUNTRY: Canada AGE: 51 REASON FOR COMING FOR TREATMENT: Val had Ataxia symptoms and cramps in her legs for as long as she could remember. TREATMENT: Umbilical Cord Stem Cell and Nerve Growth Factor Injections with Rehabilitation Therapy. START OF TREATMENT: June 13, 2006 BEFORE THE TREATMENT: See Videos: Before 1, Before 2 Val had a very unsteady gait and needed to hold the wall when walking. She had terrible muscles cramps and difficulty staying awake. Her speech was garbled. She had lots of coughing. She got fatigued easily. She had stiffness in her legs, poor depth perception, low tolerance for heat and gastrointestinal problems. She had poor coordination, lack of fine motor skills (e.g. writing), and weakness in the legs. DIAGNOSIS: Spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA2) diagnosed in June, 1998 AFTER THE TREATMENT (July 15, 2006): See Videos: After 1, After 2 Val could walk better. She had better balance. The cramps that she had for years almost disappeared but there were still some in her hands. She could walk stairs more easily. She felt stronger and less fatigued. She could write better. China Stem Cell News Note: Val came for treatment with her son, Jason Crowter who also has the disease. Four of their relatives came before her for treatment for the same disease.
