P A T I E N T E X P E R I E N C E - E P I L E P S Y NAME: Maya Mudura COUNTRY: Hungary AGE: 7
DIAGNOSIS: Epilepsy
REASON FOR COMING FOR TREATMENT: Maya had epilepsy since she was born. Her mental development has been delayed which has affected her speaking, eating, walking and memory. At age three after several severe seizures, she was diagnosed with abnormal brain development which according to the MRI is a multifunctional, right temporal and frontal DYGENISIS. The year before coming for treatment she would have many seizures over one day time. TREATMENT: Umbilical Cord Stem Cell and Nerve Growth Factor Injections with Rehabilitation Therapy
START OF THE TREATMENT: May 6, 2006
BEFORE THE TREATMENT: She did not play with other children. She had a lot of seizures and had to take a lot of medicine for her epilepsy. Her mother felt that her age mentally was the same as a two year old child. She could only go out for a walk for 30 minutes to an hour, though she did not like going out for walks at all.
AFTER THE TREATMENT (11/23/06):
Videos: Doing Puzzle1 , Doing Puzzle2 , Doing Puzzle3 , After1 , After2 , After3 , After4 , After5 , After6 , After7 At the end of one month of treatment, her parents did not notice any improvements but the seizures had stopped after they returned home. She was then able to reduce her medicine intake. Two months after they returned home, they started to see improvements in her speaking. She could not speak in sentences or use grammar before she came and she could not use words properly. She became happier and she started to play with other children. She could do more difficult puzzles. The improvement in the last six months was more improvement than she made in three years before. Her walking ability became stronger and she would go out for three to four hours instead of for thirty minutes. She actually enjoyed going out. Her balance became better and she was more confident in walking. She could concentrate better which has allowed her to learn a lot in the last six months. The therapists that did not want her to go for treatment are now happy that she did go and are also happy that Maya will go for a second treatment in January.
Note: China Stem Cell News visited Hungary to follow up on some of the patients that had been treated with stem cells in China. We visited with Maya at her house outside of Budapest.
