Dr. Yang from Shengyang 463 Hospital
From November 2003 to March 2005, Shengyang 463 Hospital treated fifty-seven patients with diabetic foot for a study to investigate the clinical efficacy of transplantation of autologous peripheral blood stem cells as treatment. The results showed that prominent remission of pain was achieved in forty-six patients three to fourteen days after transplantation, forty-eight patients had improvement of cold foot symptoms in two to seven days, four patients had obvious improvement in their foot ulcers in four to twelve weeks and increase in the ankle-brachial index (ABI) was found in seventeen patients. Digital subtraction angiographic scores (DSA) showed new collateral vessel formation in two patients after eight weeks. No related complications or adverse effects were observed so far. The conclusion was the autologous PBSC transplantation might be a simple, safe and effective therapeutic method for diabetic foot.

Forty-nine patients had intermittent claudication and among them, thirty-one patients had rest pain and thirty-three patients had abnormal color in the skin on their foot. Among the seventeen patients with toe and/or foot ulcer, six patients had gangrene and four patients had infection. All fifty-seven patients suffered in their bilateral lower limb vessels. They have treated one hundred fifty eight  patients ias of September 2005 and are welcoming foreign patients for treatment in Shen Zhen.

This study was done in the Shengyang Cell Treatment Center led by Dr. Yang Xiao Feng who has done hematology research over thirty years and has published fifty papers and four books. The center has fifty beds, twenty-five staff including nine doctors/professors and thirteen nurses with three full time staff for the stem cell research lab. After much research, the Cell Treatment Center started focusing on clinical stem cell treatments in 2003. Other treatments they have been giving include treating acute leukemia with CIK cells from umbilical cord blood and treating thighbone caput putrescence with patients own spinal cord stem cells among others. They have done another study on the Hematopoietic Blood Stem Cell Transplantation treating femur head necrosis with 40 patients which China Stem Cell News will try to publish on this site. Shengyang 463 hospital works in collaboration with the Beike group. Contact China Stem Cell News if you want to get in contact with Shengyang Hospital for treatment.
