PATIENT  EXPERIENCE  -  C E R E B R A L  P A L S Y

NAME:  Gordon PhangGordon with his mother

COUNTRY:  Brunei Darussalam

AGE:  11

DIAGNOSIS:  Cerebral Palsy

REASON FOR COMING FOR TREATMENT: Gordon hoped to mitigate his severe muscle tension and gain some control of his movement. Being able to use his hands to operate a computer would be a major improvement in his quality of life, especially in his ability to communicate.

TREATMENT: Umbilical Cord Stem Cell and Nerve Growth Factor Injections with Rehabilitation Therapy.

START OF TREATMENT:  November 28, 2006

BEFORE THE TREATMENT:

Gordon was born prematurely. He had very little muscle control - he had never been able relax his legs or his fingers on his own.  He also had difficulty pronouncing words clearly.

AFTER THE TREATMENT:

Gordon grew several inches during treatment, aided by his increased muscle relaxation and his improved eating habits. Thus far, after 6 months of stem cell treatment he has shown significant improvements whereby he can spread his fingers, hold objects more easily, lift his arms and even relax his legs on his own. He has also gained better control of his head and neck.

He is talking much more than before, using full sentences and showing an improved ability to assimilate new words into his vocabulary and respond more quickly.
