EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. - One month in China, multiple stem cell injections, and new hope for a blind East Prairie boy.
Last month we first told you about four-year-old Daegan Archie's fight for sight.
There's already a big improvement, but it will take up to a year to know the full benefit of the stem cell therapy.
In the meantime, Daegan and his family have quite a story to tell about their recent trip overseas.
After several stem cell injections, Daegan's mom Paige says the hospital staff's reaction to Daegan's progress blew her away.
"It makes you feel good, you know they're happy for some reason, but you can't understand what they're saying. They're smiling and clapping, and then all of a sudden the interpreter says 'He's responding to light.' That was on my birthday, so it was extra special," recalled Paige.
Paige says she notices other changes too.
"When he would cry before, we wouldn't make any tears, now he can cry, small things like that. He'll blink more often. He'll roll his eyes up and laugh," Paige said.
It's improvements like those that Daegan's family will be watching out for in the next year. Doctors tell the family it will take up to a year to see the full benefits of the stem cell therapy.
