STAREA EI

Diagnosticul original, inainte de interventiile chirurgicale a fost ROP stadiul 5 la ambii ochi.
Dupa interventiile chirurgicale initiale:

Ochiul drept - retina partial afectata, cu unele cicatrice si afectarea nervului optic
Ochiul stang - toata retina afectata, cu afectarea nervului optic

Inainte de a incepe tratamentul cu celule stem, Tatyana purta lentile de contact de puterea +32, si avea prescrisi ochelari de puterea +5.
Percepea lumina numai inainte de tratamentul ASC.

MOTIVUL VENIRII PENTRU TRATAMENT

Tatyana s-a nascut prematur la 23 de saptamani, cu greutatea de doar 500g. Imediat dupa nasterea ei, a fost dusa la ICU (incubator), unde a ramas timp de 4 luni. In timpul sederii, a acumulat mai multe afectiuni medicale, cum ar fi subdezvoltarea plamanilor si o gaura in inima, dar ea nu a depasit inceputul etapelor ROP. In urmatorii 5 ani a facut mai multe operatii pentru a incerca sa vada. Interventiile chirurgicale anterioare includ: Vitrectomy, Lensectomy, flambaj scleral, toate efectuate in Statele Unite. Dupa mult efort din partea medicului, ea a ramas numai cu perceptia luminii. Motivul nostru pentru care solicitam tratamentul cu celule stem a fost acela de a repara daunele nervului optic la ambii ochi.

STAREA EI DUPA TRATAMENT

Dupa cel de-al doilea implant cu celule stem, am observat ca ea a vrut sa se plimbe in jurul spitalului fara a o tine de mana pe mama ei. Acest lucru ne-a aratat ca ea era mai increzatoare in mediul ei extern, ca urmare a mai multor semnale de vedere. Dupa cel de-al 3-lea implant, am observat ochii ei si-au incetinit miscarea de rulare de jur-imprejur. Ea a inceput sa se concentreze asupra obiectelor. Dupa al 4-lea implant, a avut posibilitatea de a apuca un obiect care se afla in fata ei. Dupa al 5-lea implant, si finalul tratamentului, a fost in masura sa "identifice" unele obiecte puse in fata ei, cum ar fi o cutie de tesut.

STAREA EI DUPA TRATAMENT

Tatyana a inregistrat mari imbunatatiri legate de vederea ei. Ea nu mai poarta lentile de contact. Ochelarii ei au fost redusi de la +5 la +2.5. Sistemul ei imunitar s-a imbunatatit. Obisnuia sa raceasca aproape tot timpul, dar dupa tratamentul cu celule stem nu a mai racit niciodata. Ea are posibilitatea de a identifica oamenii uitandu-se la ei. Poate distinge 2 obiecte, folosindu-si ochii. Ea invata culorile si poate sa-mi spuna cate degete am ridicat. Se uita la televizor, de fapt, se uita la ecran. Isi poate vedea umbra si incearca sa o atinga. Ea a vazut lumina pentru prima data. Cand merge pe jos in afara spitalului ea stie daca se apropie de o bordura, fie chiar si trepte in sus sau in jos. In prezent este foarte activa si ii place sa alerge si sa sara in sus, si, adesea, alearga in fata mea fara ca sa o ghidez. Avem o intalnire programata, in viitorul apropiat, pentru ca medicul sa-i verifice nervul ei optic, retina si daca a ramas cicatricea, pentru a vedea ce s-a schimbat dupa tratamentul cu celule stem. Stiu ca va fi surprins de rezultate. Am fost atat de binecuvantati pentru ca am avut aceasta ocazie ca sa ne ajutam fiica. La inceputul acestui proces, am spus ca am fi fericiti daca vom vedea doar mici imbunatatiri, dar am primit mai mult decat ne-am asteptat vreodata, si suntem atat de incantati. Este un vis devenit realitate.

Reason for Coming for Treatment

Tatyana was born premature at 23 weeks, weighing only 1 lb. 0oz.  Directly after her birth she was rushed to NICU where she remained for 4 months. During her stay she overcame several medical conditions such as underdeveloped lungs and a hole in the heart, but she did not overcome the beginning stages of ROP. Over the next 5 years she had several surgeries in an attempt to give her vision. Previous surgeries included: Vitrectomy, Lensectomy, Scleral buckling and Fluid-gas exchange all performed in the United States. After much effort on the doctor’s part she was left with only light perception. Our reason for seeking stem cell treatment was to repair the optic nerve damage in both eyes.

Condition After the Treatment

After her second stem cell treatment we noticed she wanted to walk around the hospital without holding Mommy’s hand. This showed us she was getting more confident with her environment due to more visual input.  After her 3rd treatment we noticed her eyes slowed down rolling around. She began to focus on objects. After the 4th treatment she was able to grab an object that is held in front of her. After her 5th and final treatment she was able to “identify” some objects placed in front of her such as a tissue box.

Condition After the Treatment

Tatyana has shown great improvement in her vision. She no longer wears contact lens. Her glasses have been reduced from +5 to +2.5 strength. Her immune system has improved. She used to catch colds all the time but she hasn’t had a cold since her stem cell treatments. She is able to see people and identify them by looking at them. She can distinguish between 2 objects using her eyes. She is learning her colors and can tell me how many fingers I am holding up. She watches TV, actually looking at the screen. She can see her shadow and loves to try and chase it. She saw lighting for the first time. When walking outside she knows if she is approaching a curb and either steps down or steps up without prompts.  She is now very active and likes to run and skip and often runs or walks ahead of me instead of me guiding her.  We have an appointment scheduled in the near future to have the doctor check her optic nerve, retina and remaining scar tissue to see what changed post stem cell treatment.  I know he will be surprised at the results.  We have been so blessed to have this opportunity to help our daughter.  Starting this process we said we would be happy if we saw only small improvements, but we received way more than we could have ever expected and we are so thrilled.  It’s a dream come true.
